Dedicated to my teachers!!

Jus ate and I know I have so much of work !! still couldn’t resist writing on teachers day! Inspiration being I visited a school today for some social work and the change was so stark that it’s almost unbelievable.
Let me rewind back….1993…7th grade…teachers day…the day is so vivid in my memory even today…we had a new class teacher that year.. and she was different from others because she was younger than the average “teacher age” in our school and she really tried to make our classes more fun! !we planned a whole surprise program just for her!! I know one other friend of mine who can recollect this as good as me coz we planned this together!! Students danced for 2 songs.. fusion.. rakkamma and black or white!! Then sang songs…lighted candles and got cake! !It was such a grand day and the enthusiasm we had in executing the show just for that one special teacher makes me smile even now..
Again 12th grade…we were leaving school and its our last teacher’s day!! We planned again with so much fervor like this was the just the last chance for us to showcase our gratitude to them!! remember singing one song from dalapathi and a skit we managed in the last moment on how special teachers are at each stage in our life!! we had a usual invocation dance too!!
This year the principal(of another school) I was talking to was telling me the same thing! Students nowadays don’t give a damn about anything.. Even the principal is not revered as much as we used to!! I can still recollect the respect Sister Leena demanded! We used to even rehearse what we need to talk to her lest we say anything that is in correct! Discipline was so strongly enforced and we followed instructions without a word because we trusted their judgment!!
On this day would like to say thanks to my school for making us what we are now!! All those assembly lectures did not go waste after all!!
Dedicated to all the teachers I can remember..let me recollect them....Meera,Anitha,Sister Leena,Ramani,Ernest,Matilda,Jothi,Sonia,Shiela,Mercy, lily,Helen,Precilla,Ratna,Antoinette,
Digna,Bernanded,Alamelu,sudha,Regina,Indrani,Manimegalai,Mary,Shanti,
Saroja,Shyamala,Vasukhi( I know we have made fun of so many..still!).........The list is longer but I have to go...Rosarians can definetly add on and complete this list!!

Oh man!!! I had forgotten the 7th std special show for Anitha, until you mentioned it!! But i definitely remember the 12th std teachers' day programme: the invocation dance to Ilayaraja's Mad mod mood fugue (or was it How to name it), the dalapathi song and the skit (theru koothu style). Golden days! I'd be lucky to name more than 3 lecturers/professors from college that had as much of an impact.
Let me add to the list of teachers to remember and thank. In random order...
- (late)Angela, Maria, Latha Rajasekhar, Premila, Margaret, Asuntha, Joy, Meera Koilpillai, Selvi, Louisa, Stella, Nasakumari, Justina, (late)Frieda, Buvaneswari (the only PT teacher who played volleyball with us!), Karen, Girija .... and all the lab attendants (We could have NOT gotten thru without you!)
We owe you.
It was How to name it!and we used to practice near the audi staircase!!I agree at colelge no one quite created that impact!!
Santhu,
From my experience I think we rosarians take extreme pride in talking about our school and teachers!I don't think it happens that much in non-convent schools I should say!Maybe its just a small observation from the small sample size I have interacted with!!
Hey! I wanted to come earlier and wish ur sister "happy birthaday" but just couldn't, work kept me away! hope she had a great day!
Your post reminded me of my school, and our teacher's day functions. In our school, we had the custom that class 12th students used to come as teachers on that day and take classes. It was fun, coming to school all dressed up and getting a chance to behave like teachers. It was real fun!
Hey thtz a sweet homage to ur mentors..
Kudos ayshu!!
